This is a two (2) day course and is limited to eight (8) participants.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is an advanced, instructor-led training that highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Skills are taught in large group sessions and small group learning and testing stations through simulated clinical scenarios.
Course Content:
- Key changes in ACLS, reflecting the 2020 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC
- Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
- Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
- Airway management
- Related pharmacology
- Management of ACS and stroke
- Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
Course Duration: Initial course requires approximately 15 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
Required Materials: Students are required to bring the current ACLS Provider Manual to class. This book is available for purchase through Medstar during the registration process. The AHA also offers this manual as an eBook. Students who purchase the eBook must show it to the instructor on their eReader, laptop or other portable device.
